To find out about equal temperament, read Pythagoras, mathematics and guitar strings. Tuning a guitar by using a meter, or by stopping strings on the 5th or 4th fret, or by playing harmonics, or by tempering the open string intervals, will often not solve the tuning problems encountered on the guitar :
